Live music: 10 days of entertainment at Mountain State Fair
Ah, you know summer is coming to an end and fall is upon us when fairs start popping up. Of course, around here the big fair is the N.C. Mountain State Fair at the Western North Carolina Agricultural Center, starting this Friday and running through Sept. 15.
Aside from groomed livestock, pickled garden produce, arts and crafts, thrilling rides, impossible-to-win games and bad-for-you food that we just can’t resist, there will be plenty of live music to hear as we soak up the feel of what it means to live in the North Carolina mountains. I feel like some salty french fries drenched in malt vinegar and some bluegrass music under the stars.
This year, there will be what seems to be nonstop music and dancing under the umbrella of “Mountain Music Festival.” Every day there will be live music, usually starting at about 6 p.m. except for Sundays, when it will crank up at 2 p.m. with jam sessions by the region’s most talented musicians coming together for two hours of go-with-the-flow impromptu music….
